Hi, I’m Sarp M., the lead (and only) developer behind NebiOS. I noticed a couple of misleading or careless reviews on Distrowatch, and since that platform doesn’t allow maintainers to reply, edit descriptions, or correct misinformation, I’m posting this clarification here instead. This isn’t about making excuses; it’s about giving accurate context so new users aren’t misled by incomplete or incorrect evaluations.
First: NebiOS X does not run properly in VMs or on systems without a supported GPU.
This is stated clearly in the system requirements, on SourceForge, on the official website, and even during the live session where the user must click “Continue anyway.” Wayland + NebiDE absolutely require a capable GPU, and if someone ignores the warnings, graphical glitches and performance issues are expected. This is not a bug, and I don’t plan to “fix” it—modern hardware (2015 and later) handles NebiOS X without issues.
Second: NebiOS obviously has a terminal.
It’s Tilix, the shortcut is Super + Enter (for who don't understand it: Super = the windows or mac command key) , and it’s intentionally kept in the background because NebiOS aims to be usable without forcing people into terminal workflows. The whole point of NebiDE is to provide a fully graphical experience unless the user explicitly wants more.
Third: About Android apps
Waydroid comes preinstalled, but features like Play Store setup or multi-window mode follow Waydroid’s own documentation. A more seamless Waydroid integration is planned for a future NebiOS X update, but not yet.
Fourth: NebiOS is not spyware.
There is no telemetry, no background data collection, no tracking daemons. Privacy Policy is available under Control Center → About, and also at the footer of the official website. NebiCloud is optional; you don’t have to sign in or create an account to use the OS. Claims suggesting otherwise are simply misinformation.
---
The most frustrating part is that Distrowatch offers no way for developers to respond, correct users, or clarify anything. I would gladly reply directly —especially to the “spyware vibe” comment since it is completely false— but the platform does not allow maintainers to do so. So the only thing I can do is post the explanation here.

If you download NebiOS from the official source, you can use it with full confidence. Please do not base your opinion on reviews written by people who ignored warnings or tested the OS in unsupported environments. If you have real feedback, bug reports, or suggestions, you can reach me directly through Discord or email:

NebiOS is not a hobby experiment; it’s a serious, long-term project developed by one person operating at full capacity. Every component, every feature, every update is built with care, and meaningful feedback directly helps the system improve.
